Bohemians made 11 changes from the mid-week Irish Daily Mail FAI Cup victory over Derry City but it made no difference as they emerged from Richmond Park with an impressive 3-1 win over St. Patrick’s Athletic.

The home side opened much the brighter and jumped ahead after less than four minutes. Dan Byrne was adjudged to have transgressed by ‘climbing’. Jamie Lennon took the resultant free-kick 40 yards from goal. His lofted delivery found Achille Campion, who rose unchallenged in the penalty area to nod past Colin McCabe in the Bohs goal.

The Phibsboro side gradually worked their way back into the match and deservedly levelled matters after 27 minutes. The strike featured neat combination by a trio that featured in their recent Enda McGuill Cup final win at the same venue. Ryan Graydon made progress down the Bohs left, his cross found Danny Grant at the far post and he unselfishly pulled the ball back across the six-yard box for Ali Reghba to slot in.

Bohs were completely in the ascendancy during the third quarter and should have taken the lead before Robbie McCourt eventually made it 2-1 in the 56th minute. Skipper Brendan Clarke did well to deny Reghba and Eoghan Stokes before Reghba set-up Grant for a shot. Clarke could only parry the ball and it squirmed towards the goal-line to leave McCourt with a tap-in at the far post.

Keith Long’s men’s dominance continued through the second half and star of the show Reghba made the points safe late on with a cool low finish to the bottom corner after good work by substitute Promise Okochere. Despite that early boost, Pat’s looked devoid of areas once Bohs exerted control.
