The Irish Daily Mail FAI Cup holders, Cork City advance with ease to the semi-finals after a 7-0 win away to Longford Town.

Longford Town had their moments, but they were few and far between as they were beaten by the stronger team.

Cork opened the scoring from a set piece, a corner on the right. Sadlier’s ball was turned in around the penalty spot by Morrissey’s scuffed over head kick. Minutes later, Cork had doubled their lead. Sheppard crossed from the right and his ball into the area was met by a leaping header from Sadlier who headed home.

Five minutes before the break and things got worse for the home side. Darren Meenan was shown a straight red card for a poor challenge from behind on Sadlier. The Cork man was going nowhere on the wing as he was shielding the ball, Meenan came in with a slide tackle with studs showing. It was reckless and the referee felt he had no other option but to send him off.

Ten minutes hadn’t even been played in the second half and it was 3-0. Beattie was too strong for McGlade as he battled past him to the end line, the Cork man crossed low into the box, Tristan Noack-Hofman failed to clear his lines and Coughlan taped in.

In the 69th minute it was 4-0. Cork by this stage were stroking the ball around with ease. Sadlier slid in at the back post from Daly-Butz low cross.

Five minutes later and it was 5-0. O’Hanlon tapped in from close range after Sadlier’s low cross on the left.

With only a couple of minutes to go, Sadlier scored the goal of the night. His long range shot from 30 yards out found the top corner.

There was time for a seventh, as Cork attacked with five on two, McNamee sliding the ball into the net under the on rushing Michael Kelly.

Neale Fenn will hope the result doesn’t damage their side mentally too much as they battle for promotion, John Caulfield will hope his side don’t take too much confidence out of this result.
