The remarkable run of success Maynooth University Town has had in major cup competitions continued at the North Campus Astro Pitch when they progressed to the last sixteen of the Daily Mail FAI Senior Cup with a 2-0 victory over the Munster Senior League side Leeds AFC from Cork.
Maynooth the current FAI Intermediate Cup holders and recent winners of the FAI Tom Hand Cup were held scoreless by a fully committed Leeds at the interval but an early second half goal from full back Gary Daly set them on their way to another famous cup win.
Daly steamed in at the far post to crash home the opener five minutes in after Cillian Duffy saw his effort blocked in a goalmouth scramble.
Although Leeds were always in the game they failed to penetrate the respoute Maynooth defence and Duffy’s header from a well measured Conor Foley right wing cross sealed the win in time added on.
