Home Farm’s Sean Goulding wonder strike was the highlight of a pretty routine victory for holder Cork City, as the tribesmen ran out 5-1 winners in the first round of the Irish Daily Mail FAI Senior Cup clash at a rainy Whitehall.

John Caulfield’s troops put their midweek European disappointment behind them by beating a spirited Home Farm side at Whitehall this afternoon. With the second leg of their Europa League qualifier away to Rosenberg coming up on Thursday, and looking to overturn a 2-0 deficit, the Cork City boss made a raft of changes to his first 11 (10 in total).

The visitors got off to a dream start as Josh O’Hanlon broke the offside trap on the inside right channel and calmly slotted past the onrushing Liam Woodlock. The lead was doubled shortly after following good play by O’Hanlon down the right wing.

His low cross was spilled by Woodlock and Ronan Coughlan was on hand to tap home. Two became three before the quarter of an hour mark and it was Coughlan who got his second. Barry McNamee’s strike was bravely blocked, but the ball fell kindly to the free Conor McCarthy who selflessly squared to Coughlan for a tap in and the game was as good as done from then.

McNamee added a fourth just after the half hour mark with a well taken finish from Sadliers excellent work and cross down the left wing, Then came the moment of the game that the home fans and players thoroughly deserved.

A moment of magic from front man Sean Goulding, who after intercepting John Dunleavys square ball, had a go from the halfway line catching Peter Cherrie cold and the ball sailed in, incredible strike.

Kieran Sadlier added a fifth from the spot just before the break, when Coughlan was clipped by Duff after pouncing on the centre backs poor touch. Home Farm looked much improved in the second half in terms of shape and composure on the ball as their illustrious visitors, understandably, took the foot off the gas in the second half.
