Sinn Féin Transport, Tourism and Sports spokesperson Imelda Munster has said it is time for the board of the FAI to stand down after Sport Ireland suspended its funding this evening.
Teachta Munster said this evening;
“Senior FAI personnel, including John Delaney, are due to appear at the Joint Oireachtas Committee tomorrow. However, it is clear from the statement that they have provided to committee members that their initial response to queries regarding the €100,000 loan was not sufficient.
“This evening we have the news that Sport Ireland has suspended its funding to the organisation. This is a very serious matter.
“It is Sinn Féin’s view that it is time for the board of the FAI to stand down. They have conceded that their response to questions surrounding the highly unusual €100,000 loan from the CEO was not sufficient and they have failed to explain why rules surrounding state funding for public bodies were breached.
“The sporting public are looking on at this shambles with sheer frustration. We need answers and we need accountability. That is what I will seek to get at tomorrow’s committee meeting.”
