Sinn Féin health spokesperson, Deputy Louise O’Reilly, has said the people of Fingal are being left behind when it comes to psychology services as the constituency has the longest waiting lists in the country.

Speaking this morning, Teachta O’Reilly said:

“Figures released to me by the HSE show that north county Dublin and Fingal has the longest waiting lists for psychology services in the country with 1,936 waiting for care.

“My office is contacted weekly by people, especially parents, who have great difficulty getting appointments from the HSE with regards psychology services and it seems the services are struggling more and more to deal with people’s needs because of a lack of staff.

“The refusal by the HSE to add more services to primary care centres and the HSE recruitment ban is creating crisis in the health of local communities across north county Dublin. All we have to do is look at the data – there 658 people, many of them children, waiting over 39 weeks for psychology care in north county Dublin.

“We cannot stand by and allow the people of north county Dublin to be treated in this manner – the health services in our communities need additional investment in Budget 2020 to tackle these waiting lists and other health inequalities.
