An Post’s new set of stamps feature four iconic songs performed by prominent Irish artists.
The songs featured on the stamps include With or Without You by U2, Danny Boy by John McCormack, Dreams by The Cranberries and On Raglan Road by Luke Kelly. Issued by An Post as a way to celebrate Irish identity and culture, the stamps will feature lyrics from each song along with an image of the music artist.
With such a varied set of songs and musical genre, they show the versatility of the Irish music scene – which range from rock, poetry and folk ballads.
Valid for both international (With or Without You and Danny Boy) and national (Dreams and On Raglan Road) postage, a limited edition set of four replica 7” single discs are also available – which no doubt will be a great souvenir item for collector and music fans.
Speaking at the launch of the stamps in the GPO, Debbie Byrne, Managing Director of An Post Retail said: “An Post acknowledges the cooperation of the many artists and their families, who we are representing on our Great Irish Songs stamps.
“The stamps are a celebration of creativity and of the power of song to tell important human stories, which are at once Irish and universal. We know these beautiful stamps will be popular with fans of music all over the world.”
An Post will also present the songs featured on the stamps in a live performance in the GPO, where they will be performed by numerous Irish musical talent including John Sheahan, Colm Mac Con Iomaire, Declan O’Rourke and more.
