Sinn Féin TD for Carlow/Kilkenny Deputy Kathleen Funchion has welcomed the announcement today that Carlow IT is to receive €260,000 to support apprenticeship programmes particularly in the area of electrical and carpentry apprenticeships.
Teachta Funchion said:
“I welcome this announcement and encourage young people in Carlow to look into the field of apprenticeships locally. Investment into apprenticeships schemes is seriously needed particularly in rural regions.
“This funding provided by the Department of Education and Skills through the Higher Education Authority (HEA) should be the start of ongoing increased investment into areas of training and upskilling in trades for our community.
“Students who begin the Leaving Certificate this week should know that these options are out there and that apprenticeships can offer significant career options if the experience and training is of a decent standard.
“This particular funding for Carlow IT will support the roll-out of new syllabi for apprenticeships in carpentry and electrical training. I would encourage students in Carlow to explore these new apprenticeship opportunities.”
