The Sinn Féin MLA for South Antrim said: “It has publicly emerged that Trevor Clarke is currently facing enforcement action for building a triple garage at his home without permission.
“Ironically, this is the same DUP MLA who has already been challenged over paid advocacy claims after it was revealed that he was running a sideline business lobbying on behalf of planning applicants.“It is now reported that a printing business run from his home is also the subject of a police probe into allegations of ‘dirty tricks’ during the council elections. This is the same printing firm which received thousands of pounds in business from Antrim and Newtonabbey Council on which Mr. Clarke’s wife is a serving DUP councillor.
“The DUP has already been rocked by one paid advocacy scandal concerning Ian Paisley’s links to foreign governments, but the DUP leadership appears to be ignoring these mounting allegations surrounding Trevor Clarke.
“That is unacceptable. The allegations against Trevor Clarke are very serious and need to be rigorously investigated. The highest standards of transparency, accountability and probity must be observed by individuals holding public office. I expect these standards to apply in South Antrim.
“The DUP party leadership also has serious questions to answer over exactly what standard of behaviour it expects from its public representatives. It should now state publicly whether it has confidence in its South Antrim MLA Trevor Clarke MLA and its Antrim and. Newtownabbey Councillor Linda Clarke.”
