The Sinn Féin President Mary Lou McDonald has repeated her call for an independent investigation into concerns regarding the mortuary and post-mortem services at University Hospital Waterford.
Ms McDonald was responding to comments made by health Minister Simon Harris this afternoon.
The Sinn Féin President said:
“This afternoon the Minister for Health was rolled out to cover up for the Taoiseach’s unacceptable comments yesterday where he dismissed out of hand the concerns of the consultants at University Hospital Waterford.
“What the Minister said reaffirms Sinn Féin’s position – we must establish the full facts surrounding this controversy. Families who have lost loved ones in Waterford and the South East deserve nothing less.
“The Government has a responsibility to establish the facts. That is their job. Now is not the time for spectator politics. Rather than undermining the consultants, the Taoiseach and the Minister must support Sinn Féin’s call for a full independent investigation and for the hospital group and management to appear before the Oireachtas without delay.”
